Meet Kathy Fuller

Health and Safety Advisor & Compliance at Green Island

Kathy has been part of the ANZCO Foods Green Island team for a little more than 31 years now starting as a QA Manager in 1993 (though she did have a brief hiatus in 2004!). She then became a Health and Safety Coordinator and Hamburger Production Manager, and now works as the site's Health and Safety Advisor & Compliance.

She has a wide range of responsibilities across both of her roles. She works with employees to ensure the site, equipment, and practices are safe; this involves risk assessments, inducting employees, developing systems and procedures and training plans, and encouraging people to have a voice and participate in their own health and safety. She also does internal auditing, leads third party audits for health and safety, food safety, and MPI compliance, and coordinates HACCP food safety.

Before working at ANZCO Foods, she worked as a packer/grader at Globe Fisheries, then progressed to a supervisor, and then to a Quality Control and Laboratory Technician. Since coming to ANZCO Foods, she's been surprised at the willingness for teams to collaborate and share information across sites to support and help each other.

Kathys' claim to fame is that she was once invited out to dinner by Wasim Akram, a former international Pakistan cricket player and captain. She was at a three-day game between New Zealand and Pakistan in Dunedin when Wasim noticed her, and sent a ball boy over to her with a note asking her to dinner with the team. Although she was flattered, she sent a note back respectfully declining, as she'd been taught not to go out with visiting sports teams!

Outside of work, she enjoys gardening and attending garden tours for inspiration, cooking, walking in nature, mindfulness colouring-in, and all things equine - this is the first time she hasn't had a horse in more than 40 years! After a busy day she unwinds by walking around her garden - occasionally with a G&T in hand - taking in all the colours and fragrances and picking fresh produce to nibble on; strawberries and sugar snap peas are her favourites! Kathy is married to Mark, and they have two young-adult children, Neisha and Dominic. They also have two pet cats Gizmo and Pixie, and a chicken named Lou Lou.
