Summer Safety | November and December health and safety focus

Summer is the perfect opportunity to invite some mates around and fire up the barbeque, but if your barbeque hasn’t been used in a while, you’ll need to make sure it’s still set up and working properly.

  • Use the correct hose types to connect the gas bottle and barbeque – a garden hose can melt from the heat.
  • Always make sure your gas cylinder is secured when transporting them in your vehicle and don’t let them roll around.
  • Keep your gas bottle away from excessive heat and avoid leaving it in a vehicle in the sun.
  • Use soapy water to check if your bottle valve is leaking – if you see bubbles, there’s probably a leak, so turn off the valve immediately and move the cylinder to an open, well-ventilated area. For more information on how to do this, watch this video.
  • Check your barbeque and gas bottle are free of debris or damage before you use them.
  • Keep your barbeque on a stable surface, away from anything that could catch fire.
  • When you’re finished, let your barbeque cool down completely before moving it or putting the cover on.
