Tanzaane, Supervisor at ANZCO Foods Rangitikei
Growing up, I was always moved around, from house to house. I went to all these different schools, and I didn't really want that for my kids.
Working at ANZCO has given me stability to buy my house and make it my home, you know, for my kids for when they grow up.
I've been at ANZCO Rangitikei for just over 10 years now. I started as a labourer and worked my way up the ranks. I’ve always looked up to our A-grade butchers. They’re the ones that we all idolise, and I always wanted to get the opportunity to learn those jobs.
I got my A-grade contract just after I turned 20. Pretty much that's where everything sort of happened for me. It was the perfect time to start my family, buy a house, I got married as well.
I was always hungry and eager to learn, so eventually I got the opportunity to step up and be a leading hand and then become a supervisor.
We’re all human at the end of the day, being a good leader is wanting others to be able to come up to me and talk to me about things that they’re uncertain or unsure of. That’s why I’m here.
If I'm in a position where I can help, I will, to spread that message out - especially to our young Māori boys - that with hard work, dedication, you can actually make it. Keep pushing and aiming high.
If anyone was thinking about coming to work at ANZCO, I'd definitely tell them - 100% come over here, we'll look after you. You’ll have a stable job here with good income. The main thing is you're surrounded by good people and the environment that you're working with is really good. Everyone helps you out, everyone supports each other. That that's what it's all about, you know?
