February is Healthy Heart Month

Did you know that almost one in three New Zealand deaths are caused by cardiovascular disease?

Tips to improve your heart health and reduce your risk of heart disease include stopping smoking, eating a healthy diet, monitoring your blood pressure, lowering your cholesterol, reducing stress, and being active.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women. Heart attacks do not discriminate – women are just as likely to have a heart attack as men. But women are more likely to die from one.

Interestingly, the signs of heart attack can be different for men and women. Please familiarise yourself with the signs and act quickly by calling 111 if you think you or someone near you is experiencing cardiac issues.
