Meet Katie Cook

Stockperson at Five Star Beef

Katie is one of the “Stockies” at Five Star Beef.

She started at Five Star Beef in 2014, and her job since then has been to check animal's wellbeing, drafting for shipment, EID scanning, and much more! When she joined the Five Star Beef team, she was surprised at the size of the feedlot, and at how much the Five Star Beef team feels like a family, and how easy she finds it to get along with everyone onsite.

Before she joined the team of stockies at Five Star Beef, she was a calf rearer, and before that, she lived in Australia and worked on a cattle station. Prior to this, she worked tried her hand at a few different jobs, like hairdressing and bar work.

Katie's claim to fame was that she was on a billboard once! When she was studying in Dunedin, her Polytechnic needed someone to appear on an advertisement for a book, so they asked Katie, who had done some modelling previously.

Outside of work, she mainly spends time with her three daughters, who are six, five, and one year old - but she also loves riding horses, and each of her daughters have their own ponies. She and her husband lease a farm in Staveley, Canterbury, where they graze Five Star cattle, wagyu, and stags. After a busy day, she unwinds by listening to music - her favourite type of music is slow, cruisy country.
