Phishing email

Posted on Friday, 21 June 2024

Belinda Dixon, Livestock Administrator at Five Star Beef, was checking her emails when she noticed an unusual email in her inbox. It looked like it was from Ross Bros Transport, which frequently works with Five Star Beef, and included a bright blue link to download a file. Sensing something was off, Belinda asked a colleague for a second opinion and concluded it was likely to be a scam.

Belinda called Ross Bros to verify, and they confirmed the email wasn’t from them and was probably the result of a hack. She immediately informed her colleagues who’d also received the email, advising them not to click the link. Belinda then used the phishing alert button in Outlook to notify the Technology team and followed up with a phone call to ensure they were aware of the urgency of the issue.

Kudos to Belinda for taking the right steps to make sure ANZCO stays safe from cybersecurity attacks. This is an important and timely reminder that if something looks unsafe, it probably is.
