Ross transforming river trail

Posted on Sunday, 28 January 2024

Ross Hawthorne, Lamb Slaughter Board Butcher at ANZCO Foods Canterbury, has been clearing away weeds and planting natives on a walking trail near the Ashburton River/Hakatere since 2022.

Since beginning work on the 750m section along the river he’s planted more than 2,600 native plants including broadleaf, totara, comprosma, kowhai, and hebes. He hopes that the native trees will encourage more native birds to visit the area.

ANZCO Foods Canterbury has donated resources to Ross including gardening tools, plant guards, and materials for a picnic table.
