ANZCO Foods CEO Update - December 2024

Posted on Tuesday, 17 December 2024 under Latest Edition, CEO Updates

I won’t be the first, or last person to say that 2024 was another challenging year for our sector, so it was pleasing to see a couple of positive news articles recently around improved farmer confidence – and payments – along with higher export earnings. We hope these are indications of a more positive 2025.

Earlier this month Beef + Lamb New Zealand issued a report about New Zealand being out of step with its climate changes policies. If you haven’t had a chance to read it – or the summary of it – it’s worth taking the time. It’s a good piece of work by our industry body asking the government to put food production at the heart of climate policies and to take an approach where farmers are supported or rewarded for their actions to reduce emissions. The report shows that every country researched is trying to reduce its agricultural emissions but they’re taking different approaches. There’s an opportunity for New Zealand to learn from what others are doing and what could work in a New Zealand context. Here’s a link to the summary report comparing-agricultural-emissions-reduction-targets-summary and the full report comparing-agricultural-emissions-reduction-targets.pdf.

On behalf of ANZCO Foods, thank you for your continued support during 2024. We hope you get the chance to take a break over the holiday season and spend time with family and friends. We wish you and your families a safe and happy Christmas and all the best for the 2025 year ahead.
