ANZCO Foods CEO Update - September 2023
Posted on Wednesday, 27 September 2023 under CEO Updates
I was pleased to be able to attend the ANZCO Foods annual Livestock Conference earlier this month. This conference provides an invaluable opportunity for our livestock reps to come together to connect and stay updated on developments across the company.
Following dinner, the group was captivated by the engaging and deeply impactful speaker and farmer, Matt Chisholm. The former TVNZ Sunday reporter and host of both Survivor New Zealand and Celebrity Treasure Island delivered a candid, emotional, and raw narrative, intertwining his personal journey with a vital message regarding mental health.
Matt is the Ambassador of the Rural Support Trust and is currently touring rural New Zealand with his “Time Out Tour”. If you get the opportunity to head along to one of these events to hear Matt speak live, you’ll undoubtedly find it incredibly entertaining and worthwhile as he shares his experiences on alcohol addiction and crippling self-doubt. He also shared some hilariously epic fails on the farm!
If you’re keen to delve deeper into Matt’s personal journey, pick up a copy of his book, “Imposter”.
Last week was Mental Health Awareness Week and at ANZCO Foods, we focused on sharing the Mental Health Foundation’s proven tools to boost our mental health, Five Ways, Five Days: Take Notice, Give, Be Active, Connect, and Keep Learning.
These are all great ways to help with positive mental health, but I know sometimes the farming gig can be especially challenging, especially when many of the challenges farmers face are hard to predict or control.
There’s an interesting report out this week by BakerAg which shows the cumulative impact of Government policies and how detrimental to NZ beef and sheep farmers, as well as the environment. If you’d like to read more about this, check out this article from Beef + Lamb NZ which links through to the full and summary reports.
If you, or someone you know, needs support, check out the specific piece in this newsletter with more information on the various places and people you can turn to for help.
