Call for more farmers to join important B+LNZ Facial Eczema study
Posted on Wednesday, 18 September 2024
Farmers are being encouraged to join Beef + Lamb New Zealand’s (B+LNZ) Sheep Poo study to help understand the spread of Facial Eczema (FE) in New Zealand. More than 200 farmers have joined the study, however more farmers are needed from all regions.
Farmers do not need to have experienced FE on their farms to take part in the study.
Participating farmers collect sheep poo samples fortnightly from October-May. Farmers receive free FE spore counts, access to an online map showing results across the country and opportunities to connect with other farmers.
Greater knowledge about the prevalence of FE across New Zealand is important for developing tools to help mitigate the impacts of the disease.
Farmers can register their interest in the study here.
