How to become NZFAP and NZFAP Plus Certified

Posted on Thursday, 14 November 2024

The New Zealand Farm Assurance Programmes (NZFAP and NZFAP Plus) provide confidence and certainty to the millions of consumers world-wide that the meat and wool produced from New Zealand’s sheep, beef, and deer farms is authentic, genuine, and safe. Collectively they provide assurances regarding integrity, traceability, animal health and welfare, people, farm and natural resources, and biosecurity.

Have you wondered how to go about getting NZFAP and NZFAP Plus Certified? This month we’re outlining the step-by-step processes required to meet these two important certifications.

How to become New Zealand Farm Assurance Programme (NZFAP) Certified

Below is a step-by-step guide on the process to become certified for the New Zealand Farm Assurance Programme (NZFAP).

  1. Firstly, you must complete an application form to join NZFAP. This form can be found on nzfap.com, or contact the QA Team* at ANZCO Foods to be sent one.
  2. Complete and sign the application form and email it to our QA Team*.
  3. You must engage and implement the NZFAP requirements as per the latest Standard (Version 7). If you don’t have the latest copy, please contact the QA Team* to arrange for a Standard to be sent to you.
  4. The audit provider, QCONZ, will get in contact with you to schedule a suitable time for the audit. The wait time for audits is between four and eight weeks after the application form has been sent in.
  5. You will be audited against the requirements of NZFAP. It’s important to ensure you feel prepared and confident leading up to the audit. A pre-audit checklist is available, which is a helpful resource to ensure you understand and have completed the requirements. If you don’t have the checklist, please contact our QA Team* for a copy.
  6. Once you pass the audit, your property is officially NZFAP Certified. Recertification will be carried out every three years from the certification date for NZFAP.

How to become New Zealand Farm Assurance Programme Plus (NZFAP Plus) Certified

Below is a step-by-step guide on the process to become certified for the New Zealand Farm Assurance Programme Plus (NZFAP Plus).

  1. A pre-requisite of NZFAP Plus is that your Farm must be NZFAP Certified to apply for the programme.
  2. Complete a NZFAP Plus application form which can be found at nzfap.com, or alternatively you can contact the QA Team* at ANZCO Foods to send you a form.
  3. Complete and sign the application form and email it to our QA Team*.
  4. After you’ve applied, you’ll be emailed a digital self-assessment. This questionnaire steps you through the requirements of the Standard, helping you understand what you may need to work on. The self-assessment must be completed to progress with NZFAP Plus.
  5. Once you complete the self-assessment, you are officially a member of NZFAP Plus.
  6. At membership status, you can either be automatically audited three years from membership date, or you can request an audit when you feel ready. Please contact ANZCO’s QA Team* to request an audit – they will send you helpful resources as you progress through to audit.
  7. You must engage and implement the NZFAP Plus requirements as you progress, as per the latest Standard (Version 5). If you don’t have the latest copy, please contact the QA Team* to request a Standard to be sent to you.
  8. Once an audit has been requested, QCONZ will get in contact with you to schedule a suitable time for the audit. The wait time for audits is between four and eight weeks. If you’re aiming to go for an audit by a certain date, we recommend requesting an audit earlier on in the process because of this delay.
  9. Once you successfully pass the audit, your property is officially NZFAP Plus Certified. Recertification will be carried out every three years from the certification date for NZFAP Plus.
