Important Changes to Animal Status Declarations (ASDs)

Posted on Monday, 19 May 2025 under Latest Edition,

We’re committed to keeping you informed about upcoming changes that may impact your farming operation, particularly when it comes to access to premium international markets like the European Union (EU).

From September 2026, new EU regulations come into effect requiring official veterinary certification for all animals or animal products exported to the EU. These rules aim to align with evolving global expectations around animal treatments and food safety.

What’s changing?

To meet the new EU standards, animals destined for the EU market must not:

  • Be treated with antibiotics solely for growth promotion or yield improvement, or
  • Receive any antimicrobials classified by the EU as critical for human medicine.

As part of these changes, a new version of the Animal Status Declaration (ASD) form will include a declaration confirming these requirements have been met.

Key dates

  • The new electronic ASD form on MyOSPRI will automatically update on 3 June 2025
  • The new paper ASD form will be available from 3 June 2025
  • If you’re still using paper forms, they will remain valid until 30 September 2025, giving time to transition.

Make the switch to eASDs

We strongly encourage all suppliers to move to electronic ASDs (eASDs) through MyOSPRI. Not only does this make compliance easier, but it also reduces paperwork and speeds up processing.

Benefits include:

  • Time-saving: Your farm details are pre-filled after your first use
  • Error reduction: Avoid issues caused by illegible handwriting or missed fields
  • Faster processing: Accurate and complete information reduces delays and prevents potential downgrades

Incomplete or unclear paper ASDs can hold up processing and reduce returns — something we all want to avoid.
If you have any questions or need help transitioning to eASDs, please contact your ANZCO livestock representative or contact OSPRI directly.
