ANZCO has received feedback from some recent farm audits regarding issues with on-farm euthanasia requirements.
As a reminder: Slaughter of all animals on-farm must be completed using a captive bolt or rifle. It is recognised that in an emergency situation, out on-farm, where an animal is in pain and you don’t have immediate access to either of these items, a knife can be used.
Please take the time to read and be familiar with the requirements of the standard: Chapter 4.7 On-farm Euthanasia – Emergency and Other Slaughter of Livestock available here: NZFAP Standard on the NZFAP website (www.nzfap.com).
